Edith Nourse Rogers STEM Scholarship

If you or a military family member are pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a high-demand STEM field like computer science, cybersecurity, or engineering you could be eligible for extended financial assistance through the Edith Nourse Rogers STEM Scholarship (VA Stem Scholarships) offered by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

The Edith Nourse Rogers Science Technology Engineering Math (STEM) Scholarship allows some eligible Veterans and dependents in high-demand fields to extend their Post-9/11 GI Bill or Fry Scholarship benefits.

This VA STEM scholarship provides up to 9 additional months or $30,000 to help qualified students cover the costs of completing an approved undergraduate program requiring at least 120 credits. By investing in STEM education, the Rogers scholarship aims to grow the pipeline of skilled technical talent to fill critical labor shortages.

Am I Eligible for the Rogers STEM Scholarship (GI Bill® extension)

To qualify for the Edith Nourse Rogers STEM Scholarship extension of education benefits, you must meet the following criteria:

Even if you meet these basic eligibility requirements, the Rogers STEM scholarship is not guaranteed and is awarded on a case-by-case basis with priority given to:

  • Veterans and Fry Scholarship recipients eligible for 100% of Post-9/11 benefits
  • Applicants requiring the most additional credits to complete their STEM program

How to Apply for the VA STEM Scholarship

Eligible Veterans and Servicemembers may apply for either Veteran Readiness and Employment benefits or for Education/Career Counseling on-line through VA eBenefits website. Our staff of dedicated Admissions and VA Certifying officials can help provide you with a smooth and streamlined enrollment.

Complete the CIAT online application to take your first step to gaining entry approval into CIAT’s Degree or Certificate programs.

2) Apply for VA STEM Scholarship Online”

You can apply online right now. The online application should take you about 15 minutes to complete.

3) Complete Financial Aid Consultation

Your CIAT VA Certifying Official will evaluate your complete military benefits and tuition obligations for the program you have selected. If your tuition costs are projected to exceed your eligibility, you’ll be provided personalized guidance eligibility through the Yellow Ribbon program.

4) Enroll

Complete your CIAT financial aid consultation, enrollment paperwork, readiness course, and new student orientation

VA STEM Scholarship FAQs

You must be enrolled, or in the final pre-enrollment stages in CIAT’s BASICS (Applied Bachelor Degree in Computer Information Systems) to apply for the VA STEM Scholarship.

The VA typically makes a decision about each scholarship within 30 days. Scholarships are awarded on a monthly basis. Keep an eye on official written letters from the VA, sent to your home address on file if more information is needed.

If the VA approves your application, you’ll get a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) in the mail. This is also called a decision letter. Please provide a copy of this document to your CIAT VA Certifying Official so that we can apply your benefits extension toward your upcoming tuition payments.

If you are not approved, you’ll get a denial letter in the mail.

If we approve your application, you’ll get a GI Bill® extension of up to 9 months (or $30,000, whichever comes first).

The Chapter 33 rates for private or foreign schools apply to the STEM scholarship as well. We update these rates each academic year.

No. You can’t use the Yellow Ribbon Program with this scholarship.
