State Grants FAQs
Cal Grants are state-funded financial aid awards for California residents pursuing an undergraduate degree or vocational/career training program. Unlike loans, Cal Grants do not need to be repaid.
To be eligible for a Cal Grant, you must:
-
Be a California resident
-
Have filed a FAFSA or CA Dream Act Application by the March 2nd deadline
-
Meet income and asset requirements
-
Have a minimum GPA of 2.0 or higher
The first step is to complete the FAFSA (or CA Dream Act Application if you're not eligible for federal aid) each year by the March 2nd deadline. Be sure to include CIAT's school code, 042598, on your application.
The deadline to apply for a Cal Grant is March 2nd of each year. This deadline aligns with the annual FAFSA renewal period, so you must reapply each academic year.
There are a few different Cal Grant programs you may qualify for, including:
-
Cal Grant A:
Covers tuition and fees at 4-year universities
-
Cal Grant B:
Provides a living allowance and tuition/fee assistance
-
Cal Grant C:
Helps pay for occupational/technical training programs
Award amounts vary, but Cal Grants can provide up to $12,570 per year for tuition and fees at private colleges and universities in California.
