Hybrid Campus Residency FAQs

Scheduling & Availability

What if my schedule is variable and I can’t commit to attending on-campus session every term?

If your schedule changes regularly due to work, family, or personal obligations, and you are unable to commit your availability to attend the final exam class session each term on campus, we recommend you opt for the online campus option. If you request to be registered as a resident student and you do not meet the campus attendance requirements, your student status and campus selection will be changed to online.

For our military students, if you request to be certified as a resident student and you do not meet the campus attendance requirements, your VA certification status will be changed to online and you will owe a financial debt to the VA. This will reduce your Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) to the online rate resulting in a financial debt that I will owe to the VA. If your status is changed from Resident to Online for two consecutive terms, you will be automatically converted to an Online student.

How do I find out the date and time of my final exam?

Final exams are scheduled for Week 5 of every term.  You will be asked to reserve your selection no later than the first week of the term so that we can plan our classroom availability. Reservations will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis through an online reservation system.

Class availability each term is subject to change and CIAT cannot guarantee 100% of class availability each term.

Space is limited in capacity for each session and must be reserved ahead of time.

How long do I have to take my final exam?

Students have 90 minutes to take their final exams. This time limit is the same if taken on-campus or online. Students with approved disability accommodations on record may receive additional time to complete their exam, depending on their status.

Will all classes be available each term in the CIAT Hybrid option?

Not all classes are available every term. Class availability will vary based on instructor availability and student registration need. If a class session is scheduled in a given term, the corresponding hybrid option will be available for on-campus final exam scheduling.

What happens if I miss the final exam?

Students will be required to reserve a date and time for their final exam. Exam sessions are limited in capacity and will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

You agree and understand that NO exceptions can be made to the hybrid attendance requirements, including but not limited to the following scenarios:

  • If you have recurring health concerns or test positive for COVID
  • If you are unable to secure transportation to and from CIAT campus
  • If you have a financial hardship restricting you from traveling to CIAT campus
  • If you have a work scheduling conflict
  • If you have a personal or family emergency
  • Any other scenarios that would restrict your ability to consistently meet the on-campus attendance requirement each term.

What if I am already at a passing grade and don’t need to take the final exam?

If you have elected to be registered as a resident student in our CIAT Hybrid Campus plan, you are required to attend your final exam session on campus, regardless of your pending grade.

If I am an online student, when is my final exam due?

If you are a 100% online student and do not need to meet any physical attendance requirements for your funding, you may take your exam virtually. Your final exam will be due by end of 11:59 pm Pacific Time, Thursday of Week 5 each term.

COVID Health & Safety Protocols:

CIAT is monitoring ongoing changes to local, state, and federal guidelines for higher education requirements. Our CIAT on-campus COVID protocols are subject to change at any time to maintain the health and safety of our students and staff. CIAT recommends students are fully vaccinated, test negative prior to coming to campus, and/or wear a well-fitting mask for the duration of your visit.

Impact For Military Students:

We understand that finding an education plan that allows you to fully utilize all of your eligible military benefits is important to you. CIAT’s Hybrid Campus option combines online instruction with physical on campus sessions(s) that allow you to fulfill your physical attendance requirements. All veterans must complete a Campus Selection Agreement no later than the one week prior to the term you request resident verification.

Tuition & Education Benefits For Military Service Members:

Are tuition rates different between CIAT Online and CIAT Hybrid Campus plans?

Tuition rates are the same for in-state and out-of-state students and are the same for CIAT Online and CIAT Hybrid Campus plans. You may be eligible for up to 100% tuition coverage using your GI Bill, a textbooks stipend, and a Monthly Housing Allowance.

Active Duty Military using Tuition Assistance receive discounted tuition rate at $250/credit.

How much will I receive for my books/supplies stipend?

A yearly books and supplies stipend of up to $1,000.00 is paid proportionately based on enrollment. Learn more

How much will I receive for my Monthly Housing Allowance?

You may be eligible for a Monthly Housing Allowance. The Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) is generally the same as the military Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) for an E-5 with dependents. This rate is variable based on whether you are certified as a resident student or an online student. To calculate your personal MHA rate, please use the GI Bill® Comparison Tool published on the Veteran’s Administration website.

What is the REMOTE Act?

The Responsible Education Mitigating Options And Technical Extensions Act, also known as the REMOTE Act, extended previous legislation initiated at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020 to protect military education benefits. The original legislation extended resident military benefits for any students taking on-campus classes that were converted to a virtual format due to the pandemic.

CIAT Hybrid Campus plan ensures that all military students requiring residency status will have an option to continue their education plan uninterrupted after the expiration of the REMOTE Act.

What happens to my military benefits if I do not have a class available?

If there is no course available in a given term that meets the requirements for your program, you will be placed on a temporary Leave of Absence. You will preserve any tuition benefits or months remaining on your GI Bill. You will not be certified with the VA for any term where you are on a temporary Leave of Absence and you will not receive any portion of your Monthly Housing Allowance.

Do I need to resubmit my campus selection each term?

Students will only be required to complete their Campus Selection agreement once upon enrollment or upon any campus change. Your selection will remain in your student account and you will NOT be required to submit a campus or residency request each term.
