Attendance Policy

June 25, 2024 | Academic Support

Attendance will be submitted and recorded through weekly Attendance Activity Checkpoints. Student engagement is an essential part of the educational experience at CIAT. Active participation in coursework activities facilitates academic and career success. Your overall academic performance is directly impacted by the level and consistency of your course participation. Make sure you are completing these on time to stay within your attendance requirement!

Attendance Schedule:

  • There are three (3) attendance checkpoints each week: Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday (no changes).
  • Students are required to complete a minimum of one (1) eligible attendance activity by each attendance due date per week to earn full attendance credit.

Attendance will be tracked and visible through your Student Portal.

What Counts as an Attendance Activity?

  • Student submission of an assignment, exercise, or project (i.e. hands-on labs, lecture knowledge checks).
  • Student submission of an assessment (i.e. exams, quizzes).
  • Student submission or reply to an interactive discussion forum.
  • Completing an instructor-approved makeup assignment.

What Doesn’t Count as an Attendance Activity:

  • Logging into an online course, or your student portal, without engaging in one or more course activities.
  • Logging in to, or watching, a live lecture, without engaging in one or more course activities.
  • Homework, such as reading or self-study for exams.

Reminder: Students may not exceed 14 days of consecutive non-attendance.

If you have additional questions or need extra support, please book an appointment with your student success advisor.

There are three (3) five-week terms in a semester evaluation period. At the conclusion of each semester period, a student’s grades and progress are evaluated. Learn more about Satisfactory Academic Progress.
