Hands-on Lab Kits FAQs
Students enrolled in CIS101A (Computer Hardware Fundamentals) will receive a customized CIAT PC Build Kit, designed to complement the virtual learning experience and build confidence in hands-on skills. Students will receive a pre-built Dell Tower workstation, 24″ monitor, and accessories. During the hands-on lab exercises, students will disassemble a pre-built computer, learn about the functions of the independent parts, and then reassemble the computer into a working condition.
Delivering a pre-built computer allows students to have confidence that there are no defective parts prior to starting the hands-on lab exercises and mimics tasks you may be required to do in the workplace. Building confidence with both disassembling (to upgrade or troubleshoot) and reassembling is a common skill expected in Computer Technician or IT HelpDesk positions and can give your resume an instant boost of credibility.
For most CIS Certificate and Degree students, CIS101A will be the second course of your program. Once re-assembled at the completion of the hands-on labs, you will have a fully functioning computer that meets the hardware and software requirements to succeed in the remainder of the program. Students are required to have a computer to start their program.
