Overview - General FAQs
During the Admissions or Re-Admissions enrollment process, all students will be required to select a campus designation.
Military students will elect how they prefer to be certified with the Veterans Administration.
Students who require residency status will be required to attend one class session, their final exam, at CIAT’s National City campus. Physical attendance will be required, tracked, and reported to the Veterans Administration, Department of Education, and/or any other federal or state agencies that require residency verification.
Your mailing address will not be used to dictate your residency status. Students will select their status (resident or online) through a Campus Selection Agreement. Student residency status will be confirmed by meeting the physical attendance requirements of the program.
All active students will be required to complete a 2024 Campus Selection agreement no later than April 1, 2024, and reaffirm their election decision for resident or online status for the April 2024 term. Campus Selection Agreements will be available for completion beginning March 1, 2024. Campus Selection Agreement will be posted on the website and sent to students’ email.
Any students who do not complete the Campus Selection Agreement will be automatically designated as online students.
If you have questions about how this plan impacts you or what your options are, please reach out to CIAT Student Services Team at studentservicesteam@ciat.edu. We will set up a one-on-one appointment to help answer your questions and provide you with guidance on how to make the campus selection that is right for you.
CIAT will continue to support students in need of disability accommodations. Any accommodations currently in place in virtual classes will be extended to on-campus classes.
Yes, laptop computers will be stationed in classrooms to be used for the final exams. Exams will be delivered in a secure format. Students will not be permitted to use personal laptops brought from home for final exams taken on campus.
No, students must meet the full attendance requirements, which requires students to complete one full on-campus attendance session. If a student takes their final exam online, ahead of their reserved on-campus session, their campus selection and residency status will be reverted to online.
Tuition & Education Benefits For Military Service Members
Tuition rates are the same for in-state and out-of-state students and are the same for CIAT Online and CIAT Hybrid Campus plans. You may be eligible for up to 100% tuition coverage using your GI Bill, a textbooks stipend, and a Monthly Housing Allowance.
Active Duty Military using Tuition Assistance receive discounted tuition rate at $250/credit.

You may be eligible for a Monthly Housing Allowance. The Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) is generally the same as the military Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) for an E-5 with dependents. This rate is variable based on whether you are certified as a resident student or an online student. To calculate your personal MHA rate, please use the GI Bill® Comparison Tool published on the Veteran’s Administration website.
The Responsible Education Mitigating Options And Technical Extensions Act, also known as the REMOTE Act, extended previous legislation initiated at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020 to protect military education benefits. The original legislation extended resident military benefits for any students taking on-campus classes that were converted to a virtual format due to the pandemic.
The REMOTE Act granted an extension for resident military benefits until June 1, 2022.
CIAT Hybrid Campus plan ensures that all military students requiring residency status will have an option to continue their education plan uninterrupted after the expiration of the REMOTE Act.
If there is no course available in a given term that meets the requirements for your program, you will be placed on a temporary Leave of Absence. You will preserve any tuition benefits or months remaining on your GI Bill. You will not be certified with the VA for any term where you are on a temporary Leave of Absence and you will not receive any portion of your Monthly Housing Allowance.
Students will only be required to complete their Campus Selection agreement once upon enrollment or upon any campus change. Your selection will remain in your student account and you will NOT be required to submit a campus or residency request each term.
